This past March, CLN’s Chief Learning Officer Week: Silicon Valley in San Francisco brought together 100+ learning and organizational development leaders for four days of best practice sharing and benchmarking. Kicking off the main conference was our futurist chairman and Chief Evangelist, Amar Dhaliwal of EdCast – sending a call to action for today’s learning & talent organizations to build a culture of continuous learning, putting learners at the center of the experience.

Agility, Innovation, and Learning Culture were the buzzwords ringing throughout the 3 days. And what better way to set the tone than esteemed Harvard University Professor Robert Kegan, presenting his research on building a “Deliberately Developmental Organization”, giving the audience some food for thought on creating a culture that nurtures everyone. We also heard from industry leaders at Amazon, Dollar Tree, and Royal Bank of Canada, who focused their sessions on building agile and engaging talent systems with innovation in mind.

Coaching and leadership development were also front of mind. Taking the stage was the ever-charismatic Michael Bungay Stanier, with his dynamic closing capstone on “The 5 Question Leader”, giving the audience a ready-to-implement model on integrating daily coaching habits into their workflow.

It wouldn’t be a Silicon Valley event without the most trailblazing trends in learning and development. From virtual reality solutions like Mursion and StrataVR/AR in the expo hall, to inspirational stories from World Bank and GE, attendees walked way with a better grasp on creating a system that makes learning accessible, personalized and scaled in different ways.

After a lively three days, we winded down and got a taste of Silicon Valley with site visits to Genentech and Facebook’s corporate headquarters. Here, we were able to peek behind the curtain, experiencing excellence in action.

After wrapping up with CLO Week Silicon Valley, we left even more eager to hit the ground running for the big show. We’ll continue the conversations at Corporate Learning Week, CLN’s flagship summit returning to Dallas this November 13-16.
